ORIGINAL: WARG

I have had my bike 18 months. I have had the following issues:

Engine Temperature sensor went bad @ 300 miles - replaced under warranty
Fuel pump pickup hose had a hole in it @ 5800 miles - replaced under warranty
25 degree injectors installed due to service bulletin
I had to replace the horn to get my new HD Horn cover to work.
My opinion of the dealers customer service has crumbled. I have had to fight or go to multiple dealers to get something accomplished.

I know this doesn't sound like much, but I am nearing the end of my warranty and I have to admit I am a bit paranoid about my bike. I am now getting freaked over evey little tap and click the engine makes. I almost feel like trading it in or selling it. I am just stressing over this stuff b/c I have had more issues than anticipated from a new bike. Honestly it is taking the fun out of it. I am getting crap from my relatives (who have metric bikes) saying "man, that Harley sure is in the shop a lot".

I baby my bike, and maintain it properly, so it frustrates me to have to keep taking it in for stuff.
I have a lot of $$$ in it, and really like where it's headed.

I don't know, am I just being a sissy.
Technically, two if the items on your list don't really qualify as being major mechanical issues / breakdown items. The injectors and horn specifically.

The hose is probably good for at least 50,000 now, it was just a freak of assembly. And sensors do go bad.

All in all you are looking at no more than 4 days total it has been in the shop unless your dealer is behind.

I don't baby either one of my bikes. I have an 06 with 21,000 miles on it and an 03 with 32,000 miles on it and right now both are dirty as can be because I would rather ride than wash.

I think you need a different dealer. One that have techs you don't need to second guess and argue with. Ones that are accurate and fair.

Other than that, ride it. Get out there on a long extended road trip.

Get out there on a long extended road trip.
Just finisheda 4 day, 7 State, 1800 mile trip last weekend. Enjoyed the heck out of it. Bike ran good (except for the fuel hose). Didn't have a windshield either, I just leaned back onmy backrest and duffle bag and cruised. It was nice. The bike's not going anywhere, I just let my frustration get the best of me for a minute.

Your bike doesn't respect you yet. You respect it, but it does not respect you. Stop "babying" it. Don't abuse it, but ride that thing and sometimes ride it hard. Especially if your warranty is about to be up. If anything more is gonna happen, let it happen now before it runs out. Sometimes being too conservative with things doesn't allow them to work proper. Sometimes these little things just have to be pushed so that they show themselves and you can get them addressed. There is a reason there is a warranty. Things happen on shakedown cruises, ya know!

I was "very nice" to my bike when she was new also. 5000 miles later someone convinced me to take her to the rev limit once or twice. She loosened up and ran in a whole new way ever since. As I said, don't abuse her by going to the RL often but stretch those pistons out and work all those moving parts and electronic doo dads she has and she will limber up and probably be just fine...

I wouldn't worry about what your relatives say. Ask them how long it would take to get a part for thier bike if it broke? Probably months. I know that is about how long I have had to wait for my parts on my Suzuki Intruder. I also know one guy who waited for over 6 months to recieve new case halves after his crank broke on his import bike.

Now get out and ride, your Fatboy looks awesome.

You're right, I probably coddleit too much. I have opened it up a few times and hit triple digits on the speedo, but I do baby it a bit too much.
