Well like I do every year I change all my fluids and adjust my clutch and everything else you know a full check. Out of the bike been doing it every spring this year somehow I adjusted the clutch the adjuster came loose from the top nut of the cable adjuster and I can't get it adjusted right to speak keep staying ingauged went through all the post on clutch adjustment everything anybody else ever have this happen to them and got solution or any ideas for me would appreciate it thanks first time I ever had a problem adjusting my clutch
The clutch adjustment is done inside the primary with a wrench and an allen wrench.
If you are talking about the cable adjustment 1/16-1/8 inch at the feral on the clutch lever. Per the shop manual for 16 Softails.
Assuming you have the locknut and the pushrod end adjusted correctly, I suggest you disconnect the cable at the lever and try to get the adjuster together again. Once together, reconnect at the lever and adjust freeplay.
I had something like this a few years ago and found the spring plate in the middle of the clutch pack went bad ... clutch adjustment was all over the place and my cable adjustment almost came apart as well ... installed new clutch pack, spring plate, and throw out bearing, made all adjustments and was good to go
If you have a different ball ramp on your timing cover side your back out on your clutch is going to be different and it does make a difference stock ramps are 22° - 25° there you go 1/2 to 3/4 of a turn out then Lock it down if you have 18° or 15° you don't go more than a 1/4 turn those are aftermarket or HD easy pull ball ramps that's why if you have to shut it down to get into neutral you got clutch drag I finally found out that's why I couldn't get my clutch working right plus may have located the top ball ramp plate one ball bearing over one duh !!! not paying attention so if you want to learn about it go on YouTube and search for Tony Encalade He is a instructor and old school knows his **** and gives the whole lowdown on it and more
