I did a search and was unable to locate how to adjust the belt on my 2000 FatBoy. I plan on buying the service manual, but just haven't had the time yet.
I need to change my rear tire and want to remove the tire and then when I reinstall make sure the belt tension is correct. I found a spot that I can use 1 finger pressure and just touch the frame as it is adjusted currently. I also have a spring scale that I can use if there is a way to implement that. I appreciate any guidance and advice anyone can offer. Thanks in advance.
You should be able to pull the rear axle without having to mess with the adjustment bolts on either side of the rear swingarm. Get the bike high enough in the air, pull the bolt, make sure you see which side each spacer came from, and push the wheel forward and it should come out.
Harley makes a little belt tension tester tool that's fairly inexpensive (I was thinking around $20 or so). I've been meaning to pick on up myself, but keep forgetting to...
Thanks for the responses. I was able to remove the wheel and then put it back on without loosening the adjusters. I may pick up that tool for future use or I may just use my finger method. Thanks again for the help.
