I get my gym time - get 4-5 workouts a week. My job requires it.

Even thought I haven't hit 50, if I miss a week in the gym I really feel it.

Happy Trails. Time to trade in the two wheels and get four wheels. Maybe a HotRod or RatRod. Whatever you do, just enjoy life.

You guys are scaring me. I'm 65, just retired and thinking of moving up from my beloved Softail to a Road Glide.

To to be sure. I considered calling it quits a couple years ago after my second accident. I walked away without a scratch, but got a pretty good scare and a couple thousand in damage to the bike. I thought about it over the winter and come spring, I decided I still wanted to ride. I've never spent a day in the gym since I got out of school. I do still ride my road bicycle to stay in shape, but that's it.

Tampa, I hope you'll consider hanging around here. You will be missed.

Title says "Softail days coming to and end" not riding days. Are you on to something else or is this it for 2 wheels period?

I'm only 26 and I may have to give up on Harleys all together. When your spine was crushed in 2 spots and the nerve through your left hip is severed(dropfoot) heavy bikes are just hard to ride and painful too.

So did I give up riding, no. I like motorcycles... Not just Harleys. So little yamaha 250 It is. 10.8 inches of suspension compared to Harleys 2.5. 71mpg. Most of all less than 300lbs. I actually have fun riding around town now. I wheelie the thing all over. Still have my dyna as I can ride it only short hops.

If you like riding harleys... Yeah your probably done. But if you are a motorcyclist there is a whole world of smaller, lighter, and actually FUN motorcycles.

I'm seeing this more and more on the boards I frequent and now it's becoming more apparent to me also. I fear that with 66 closing in my riding days are nearing the end. Same reasons, old injuries, health concerns and the knowledge that after almost 50 years of riding and no crashes the thought that sooner or later the roof falls through and the rent comes due somewhere down the line is always with me now. Riding a motorcycle is not for the timid nor for those who get so careful that they end up making a mistake that gets them hurt.

But I'm not sure I'll sell the bike. After all being paid for it won't cost me anything to look at it in the garage. Besides, I could always ride it around the neighborhood when there's nobody on the road!

Yea, but as my father used to say, "getting old isn't for pussies," either.
