Tranny drain plug?? Need Verification
I'm getting ready to change my fluids this afternoon. I just want to verify that the tranny drain plug on a 06 FXST is where I think it is.
Looks like to me it is under the bike between the shocks. Can I get someone to second that motion?

It really wasn't all that difficult. did the oil tank first then the tranny. Pulled the oil sump plug out of the engine before I did the primary.
Guess who forgot to put the sump plug back in???
A friend of mine who is a service tech just happened to be here when I fired it up.
I told him I left the sump plug out on purpose since I was switching to full synthetic. I wanted to flush all the old regular crap out of the bike. [&:]
Just don't let him know that I actually forgot. That could be embarrassing.
The 2nd time wasn't difficult, ha, ha. I had mine on thebike liftthe first time -backlift platform wasin the way. Tried to use some extensions and a wobble for the hex head and the allen head - stripped one pretty good. Finally had to bite the bullet and take the bike down and drain it from the floor. Seem to recall that it was difficult to start the bolt when I was ready to re-fill fluid also. Anyway, live and learn..........
I would not make a habit of pulling that sump plug from the bottom of the engine.
Its not ment to be removed more than a very few times and will eventually wear out or strip out on you.
If yourbound and determined to get ALL the old oil out when you change it. It would be better to get one of the kits that fit on theoil filter mount and let the engine pump the little that's left in there out.

The sump plug was pulled because I didn't know what the hell I was doing. I actually thought it was the primary drain. Live & Learn.
But I vowed last year that the dealer will never see my bikes under a vollunteer status again. Plus what do they charge? A couple hundred? Just to change your fluids.
Since then I've been doing my own stuff & suprisingly the bikes has began to run much better & smoother.
Imagine that!!!

Use a socket to break loose the tranny plug then switch over to a allen wrench , socket or otherwise . Don't think you can get it to the proper torque settings with a wrench .

One other question though.....
When you check your tranny fluid, do you do it straight up or rest the bike on the stand?
I thought the service manual said level. But others tell me to do it on the stand.
