The interesting thing is that this seat wasn't even secured! I'm not sure what happened there. The tab was hooked on the front but the bolt holes on the rear of the seat didn't even begin to align with the holes in the frame. The one I put on aligns correctly.

My concern hasn't been about scraping floorboards, but about dropping the bike. It just feels clumsy to me on corners, especially when going slowly.

Hopefully that feeling will go away soon.

I understand what you mean. I can't explain you how to ride but in slow corners a common technique is to push your bike in the corner and counter balance with your upper body. This combined with higher revs( lower gear) , so you have to play with the clutch to regulate your speed, and your right hand does not need to change anymore to alter the speed. This way you have more control of your movement while cornering. Hope you get something out of this.

It was probably taken from a deluxe, it didn't fit, and owner never cut a new bracket.

Could be. I definitely like the narrower seat better.
