Dealerships do charge departments internally.
For example, if sales promises a customer mats for
a new car purchase, the parts dept charges the sales
dept for them.
Service does charge sales for labor.
Then service mangers get pissed when used car managers
farm work out ($$$$$$$$$$$)

Now what kind of BS is that, it's all one store. I've never bought a bike from the stealership
they love guys like you who buy a new bike then buy another new bike the following year.. Hooked!
The way I looked at it when I traded my RGU for the FXSB was that I got back all I had put into it and got to basically "test drive" a touring model for 5 months for free. I found the Ultra too heavy and ultimately figured that I'd never be one of those riders who did a 1,000 mile ride in the course of 24 hours. A cruiser made much more sense to me.
The fact that the dealer paid off my trade and discounted the Breakout on top of it made the deal too good to pass up.
believe me, they made out better than you did. you paid on the bike along with interest they are making out better in the resale and they sold you another bike
MoCo's sales numbers have significantly declined lately. The dealer's have to get this year's models out of the showroom. Plus they have to meet the sales target to get their yearly bonus. New bikes OUT is what counts....used bikes IN don't
I've heard the M8 Softail is the big win for next year. The M8 Dyna will be hated due to frame unification changes. Also prices will go up about $2K. Touring will get pricey too...but Softails are expected to be the next hot seller after the M8 update. The twin cam Softail was hard for me to love, but the M8 might add it to my wish list...

If they didn't make a profit they wouldn't be in business.
If past history is any indication, there will be a brief period (maybe a year) where the M8 Guinea Pigs will be squealing and the 103 will be a hot commodity.
