I installed the same one on my 06 Softail Deluxe. According to the Bike Fitment chart on that page it should install fine. No special wiring for the Tach to work is needed. The signal is part of the current plug under the console. Some functions may not work like Distance Until Empty. Thats the only one on my bike that doesn't work because of the year. Also the mileage will transfer over using the special cable included.

I installed the dual speed (km/h and mph) one on Reaper (2005 Night Train) last year. It's plug and play. No special wiring needed. Just make sure you have the original ignition module installed when you transfer the mileage. I have an aftermarket one, and it wouldn't transfer until I reinstalled the stock one. Once the transfer was complete, I reinstalled the aftermarket module, and everything has been running like clockwork. You probably wont have the fuel gauge or miles remaining functions available, because your bike, like Reaper, is too old, heheh...
