I ride my fatboy hard in the twistys and this was one of the best mods I could have made. I am the same, wonder why it took me so long to make the change.
I know spending money on suspension is not 'sexy' and doesn't do anything to the appearance (unless you lower it) of the bike but it is one of the best mods one can do to their bike. Setting up the bike to fit you for your weight and riding style will ultimately result in a better ride and you loving your bike that much more!
I can't disagree with the 422s, but I run Shotgun Shocks on my Heritage Springer and Crossbones. Bumps in the road are pretty much nonexistent with them. It's worth a look.
