Been using the Xena disc lock with siren for 10 years, plus I always install the siren with H-D security system. They are very loud. Plus with the H-D system you can get the pager beeper to keep on your belt or desk in a hotel room. You can sleep without worry providing you are packing heat.

"Packing Heat"? Not sure what your state/county laws are but smoking someone for stealing a motorcycle and you will most likely be going to jail. Is that fair not sure? Scumbag thiefs deserve to pay the price of justice for real.

backing heat applies to bike jacking...I have a carry permit an you can not use force to save property (at least in Ohio)...if they are stealing it in your presence an you "feel your life or someones life is threatened" you can use deadly force. Using a weapon is the absolute last option... even if in a clear justified case it's a legal nightmare an expensive to defend yourself.
but let's not get off topic too much

Yeah I get it. You pretty much stated what I did. The point was the poster I quoted said if you're armed you can rest at night or something to that effect on motorcycle security. Maybe he does, I just hope he never has to defend what he has implied ITRW.

Thanks for the insight fellas...

Since this happened over the weekend...I kind of just let him do his thing with the law and insurance co.

He said bike was locked w/fork lock but that's all he had.

I'm waiting for him to get back to me...I'll post a follow-up.

Thanks again,

smat

I have the siren on my bike. This thread has me wondering if I should have the pager alarm. Anyone here using that? Can you run both siren and pager?

I have the rechargeable pager. Yes, you can run both. The only function of the pager is to alert you when the security system is armed, disarmed or triggered.

I may have the dealer install the pager in addition to the siren next time I have the bike in. Usually when I am riding the bike is within earshot of where I am, but occasionally not. I always have my iphone with me so presumably it would alert me if some miscreant is messing with the bike in a parking lot. When eating in a restaurant, for example.

The counterpoint to this is that sometimes even a minor effort at security will cause some thieves to look elsewhere. There are many more thieves out there looking for things to steal then groups of guys looking for a motorcycle to "toss the bike in a pick-up".

Nothing is perfect protection, but does that mean people might as well think 'whatever happens is just what happens, accept it without attempting to prevent something from happening'?
