The mounting should be behind the blade, not in front of it. It looks like the fangs on the new FB there are on backwards.

Actually, you know what? I'm looking at two different Harley install guides for them. One says the mounting goes in front of the blade, the other says it's the reverse.

Interesting regarding the mounting.

I wonder if it "clears" everything in either direction its mounted? If it does clear everything, I wonder which direction offers the best smoothest air flow or does it make a difference.

Didn't get a chance to order the Fangs yesterday. Will do it today. I'll ask the dealership if they can get it PC'ed. If not, I found a place not too far from where I live.

Here are a few pics of my 18 fatboy with the fangs. I think the chrome is the right choice for the front end of this bike as everything else is silver but the tire and fender.

Thanks for the pics. Is that the tall windscreen you installed on your FB? Mind sharing how tall you are? Is it a good assumption that you bought the windscreen thinking you'd be good and then didn't like the buffeting behind the screen so you got the lowers as well?

The touring fangs show mounting behind the blades. They do have some verbage in there about being able to clear the engine guard. The softail install guide shows mounting in front of the blade.

I don't think it matters unless you have engine guard clearance issues. I have it behind the blade on my Lo contrary to the softail install guide. I think it looks better and they still work great.

I thought I saw someone selling a very nice WindVest screen. Good price too.

Yeah Tom...you're right. Concave looks backwards, but is actually correct..The HD come labeled with Left and Right.
Problem with putting them convex (bulge outwards) was wouldn't work on my bike because they hit the Highway/Crash bars at full directional lock, plus had additional issues with my relocated turn signals being in the way.

If you don't have the crash bars or relocated turn signals, then go with whichever way looks best I guess.

If you go to the harley store website, you will find like 9 pages of comments about how the instructions are wrong and they are often put on backwards. They just might hit something if angled back, especially an engine guard which I don't have on... yet.

Yes, I went with the tall screen. I seem to sit taller in the saddle even though I'm 5'10" 29" inseam. I ALWAYS have buffeting over my head, especially with typical cruiser windshields. I can still see over the top of the tall screen easily and with the slight curve at the top, it seems to be "pretty" calm. If they made a taller one, I might have gotten that one, but I think this will be fine.

When I got this screen, it was nice, but huge buffeting. I did as suggested above, and put my arm across my chest... quiet. I knew then I had to have lowers. Since they didn't make they yet, I was able to call my dealer and get the hole dimensions and found I could just drill one hole and it would work and it did. One of the best $100 I have spent.

I had severe buffeting issues on my Deluxe. It wasn't bad with the 21" tall HD Nostalgia screen, but I hated the way it looked and I hated having to look through it. So I bought a 16" recurve. Head buffeted so bad it blurred my vision above 50mph. I then bought an 18" recurve. Still some buffeting, but not as bad. Still too much.

Since I couldn't use the 16" and I couldn't sell it for even the cost of shipping, I took a saw to it and started cutting it down. First a couple inches off the top. The some off the sides. A little more here and a little more there. I settled on 10" high from the top of the headlight nacelle, and two inches off each side. It's now more like a sport shield. Keeps wind pressure off my mid section and my helmet is in clean air. Looks b!tchin' too!

I agree that clean air is far superior to protection and buffeting. I did find that no shield was pretty terrible though.

Might try reversing the fangs tonight and see what difference, if any, there is.

Hard to imagine how they could get any better.

I never bothered looking at them when I bought them. Just took the box straight over to the shop counter and told them to PC them. They blasted the L and R indicators right off of them in the PC.
