Default Tires!

Found a 2009 deluxe for sale that has 4300 miles on the tires! They look good but regardless of how they look they are still almost 9 years old. The bike has been sitting in the garage not exposed to the elements but I'm thinking just sitting in the garage could be just as bad! What's your thoughts? Should I just buy new ones or would they be ok still?

thanks in advance!

Excellent question my friend. Tires are critically important.

In addition to tread, I would check for dry rot. But also if the bike just sat there and not moved around every once in a while, there is a Boeing on the sides of the tire closest to the ground. That may weaken the side wall.

If you have any question whatsoever, I would definitely change them out. But you can also run that by the Harley service technician and see what they say. If you have an honest one, they are more likely to tell you the truth then try to sell you a new set.

I wish I could help you more on the matter but at least those in my $.02.

I don't care how good the tires look...9 year old tires should be replaced!

My 2 cents, Buy new ones and tubes/rim liners, if spoked rims.

as most say buy new. Bikes...only 2 wheels, dont want them 2 wheels to give you any doubt as to their ability to keep you rolling for many safe miles.

Brand new tires will give you the most accurate feel for the actual state of your new bike’s handling. I’d want to know without wondering how much the old tires are affecting it. You don’t know the history of those old tires. Curbs hits. Puncture repairs. Most critical part on the bike. Congrats on new bike!
