Have a 18 heritage
bags are very poorly designed. Kick stand is a pain in the fanny. Well for me when riding two up.
and the trunk they sell for it quality is very very poor on the inside for the price they charge.
Well.. the Heritage which has always been a showpiece or Softail style and chrome has become some drunken version of a club style nightmare with missing pieces. The Deluxe has somewhat taken over in the chrome department, but it is a one up bike from factory and also missing the classic Deluxe style.
No heel shifter. Very limited accessory line. They are toned down and sound like a metric cruiser lacking soul.
The MoCo has figured out if you put less needed parts on the bikes, people will spend more money on accessories to make the bikes user friendly.
I realy can't tell if this post was supposed to be a joke for all the trolls to latch onto or an honest query.
Assuming the latter, I, as first time Harley owner of, what happens to be a '18 Heritage Softail, can truthfully say I have nothing about the bike itself that I dislike. I purchased it because I like the black out look on my Cherry but that is a personal choice. I'm positive if a chrome option was available, there would be takers. That is like color choices...for every available color there are buyers and those who want more choices. Also, I can not personally relate to operating or performance concerns that some previous posters have mentioned since I have had nothing in the past to compare with.
That all being said I do DISLIKEa number of things I feel H-D could have done MUCH MUCH better for the amount of $$$$ we pay for a these new bikes. Here is my list of things and questions that, I can safely say, are quite common complaints and have been mentioned in many of the threads herein.
1. A speedo that gets condensation under the glass (probably top on a priority list).
2. The new style Heritage Saddlebag that tends to pop open while riding, has the most horrible latches that restrict what can be put in them and have been known to leak.
3. A gas cap that rattles/buzzes while riding.
4. A Kick (Jiffy) stand that does not FEEL secure and doesn't slides out while setting the bike on it.
5. Lack of a Heel Shifter, at least if only available as an option, why not available in Black?
6. Gas tank Emblems that fall off.
7. Why aren't optional Headlight trim rings that match the optional passing lamp rings available?
8. Why, in this day and age, aren't all the stock lights LED's?
9. Why couldn't the passing lamps be wired to be on with the Headlamp as on the Touring bikes...(this is personal safety issue to me).
Of course there is the M8 sumping problem but from what I have read, doesn't appear to be a problem on the Softails...so I guess, souldn't really be listed.
And, should the subject of wind buffeting with a stock H-D Windshield be listed?
I guess I do know of one frame design flaw... the ability to mount passenger foot boards because the peg location on the left side is too close to the transmission housing. Don't know if MoCo will be able to develope a set of Foot boards similar to those they make for earlier softails because of this problem. We all know there is nothing available right know and there are a number of Deluxe and Heritage owners who are fustrated and annoyed because thay can't install Passenger foot boards for their better half.
I suppose these peeves must be put up with, as part of being a Harley Softail owner, but we don't have to like them so why can't we list them as the OP asked.
About the only thing that I could not abide on my '18 Fat Boy was the factory seat. IMO it is made for a rider no taller than about 5'10". It would be cool if Harley could offer a choice of seats on at least some of their bikes. They are so open to test rides, and have demo seats available so why not allow the buyer a choice between the current stock seat and a Tallboy, or even a solo seat? I think the reason is as has been stated, it's a way to get more money out of buyers who need to purchase something to make the bike fit them. In my case I went for a Saddlemen seat so Harley didn't get that extra buck from me, but I'm sure they do from many others. And I did buy the mustache bars, so far....
Other than that though I'm enjoying my new bike immensely. It rides well, gets great gas mileage, sounds good, and has plenty of power to carry my carcass around. And, again imo, it looks fantastic.
I have an '18 Breakout. Only thing i didn't really like was all the chrome, but that was an easy fix. Other than that, i love everything about this bike. Super comfortable, loads of power, and looks amazing. I get more smiles per mile than anything else i've ever driven. Harley have done great job with these new bikes.
Frank; Gee thanks for the **** list for my NEW DELIVERED TODAY Heritage. LOL.
Now I know what to expect.
And that all is unacceptable. I worked for AMF HD and I know what BAD QC is. It looks as if the **** has BAD QC again.
I will not be happy if I experience any of the problems you mentioned.
I will make it a point to write to the **** to complain.
ETA to add; I am good with just a toe shifter.
Also in reading some of the posts here, perhaps HD is trying to reduce weight of the bikes. That is a good idea. I will give them benefit of the doubt if some of the things are done in that spirit.

I feel the Heel Shifter should be a standard, but since it did not come that way, I purchased one to add. Pissed me off that it was only available in Chrome as it was listed for the Heritage. I had to spend additional bucks to have it powder coated Black.
Love the new platform. Do NOT love the 'new' Heritage. If they'd put all that new stuff in a chrome oriented package, I'd be drooling all the way to the dealer...... We'll see if they come out with a chrome choice next year.......
Im right there with you on the new Heritage Classics. When I first saw one on the show room floor, I didnt know whether to cry or throw up. I do agree though that they need to offer a chrome version but Im sure there are a lot of people who like the blacked out version too. I also think that the Road and Street Glide Specials should have a chrome version as well. When I bought my RGU act in March, I would have bought a hot rod red flake SGS if it had a chrome version. Oh well, Im happy with my electric blue RGU.
