IMO, a Heritage and a Deluxe were meant to have saddlebags, not a FB. Most saddlebags I see on them are too small and they look odd. I think a swingarm bag looks great on a Fatboy.
So youre building this bike to impress others? Win a bike show?
I set mine up for my convenience, I must have bags, long day trips I must have rain gear or leathers for the changing weather, or Incase somebody buys something. So my vote is keep the bags, Ive put 96,000 mile on my electraglide, function is my goal.
I like BIG BUTTS . . . and small bags. They don't cover the swing arm and let you see that you are riding a softail. Not everyone packs like someone's grandmother taking a tour of Europe.
I'm like you...don't care for look of bags, but they can be a necessity. My problem with many bags I find are they look to fat on bike...stick out too far. I like a more low profile bag, however that does limit how much you can carry.

I like it better without bags. Same on my Slim (like no bags), but I needed
something bigger than a 'swingarm' bag, so I use a quick detach
Rocker saddlebag. It still allows me to use my QD sissybar/rack combo
as well... Here's a few pics.
Remove them. They're too small. I have the HD Fatboy bags on mine (Came with it ...) and love the size. They're always on it. I think it mine looks better with them on and I frequently use them. Kid can fit his school backpack in one, my work laptop, etc.
