Actually no... There are lower profile jacks available. The Titan MPJ-1500 (~ $150) - which I have - goes a low as 2 7/8".

The Titan has worked fine for me.

I've also seen mention of the Larin MAL-2C (also ~ $150), which is supposed to have a minimum height of 2.5". I don't own or have any experience with the Larin jack, so I can really comment on it one way or another.

I stand corrected.
My post has been corrected.

Looks a lot like the one I got at HF, just a different color. I wonder if they're any different?

I have a Big Red (Torin) $75.00 shipped from Pep Boys. They work just fine. If you only need a little bit of clearance to get a jack to work, put a block under the jiffy stand works too.

I have a 2006 Softail Standard and the shocks appear to protrude below the frame rails. I put blocks on the jack rails, but is this necessary? Do all Softail shocks protrude below the frame rails or did someone put fatter shocks on it? I am 3rd owner.

Pretty sure all the OEM Softail shocks do that.. jireh cycles (Ultima) used to make a narrow body shock I don't know if they still do...

I bought 12" of heater hose.
Then cut it into four 3" sections and installed them on the frame rail.

It not only keeps the jack off the shocks but it also marks where the jack needs to go.
I just leave the hose pieces on and they haven't fallen off yet.

HD also sells frame protectors if you're really concerned.

I have the same issue with my 2000 Softail (FLSTC-mod) and I've been lifting 'em up on the shocks for years with no noticeable issues. That said... I like the idea of having something else take the brunt, like suggested above.
