2007 Deluxe - Smart Security System - Self-install Help
Apologies in advance 'cause I know there are MANY posts/threads on this topic, but I've read until my head hurts and am still unable to find a definitive answer to my questions. It seems people never return to their own threads to post the outcome; I guess they're out ridding, or still sitting in the dealer parking lot crying. Also sorry that this explanation will be long, but I don't want to miss any details and render the bike inoperable.
The plan was/is to add the TSSM/HFSM to my 2007 FLSTN. I was told by a friend at work who rides that I could get all the parts myself, install them, and just have the dealer pair the fobs. Sounded good to me.
I bought lightly used versions of all the components that HD includes in the 68207-07A security package that's listed as appropriate for my bike, except for the Antenna Mount, which I couldn't find on eBay so I was just going to zip tie the antenna to something. I have the following parts:
68925-07 - Module
68926-07 - Fob(s)
68956-07 - Antenna Module
70617-07 - Antenna Jumper Harness
70401-07 - Antenna Mount (don't have this piece yet)
68328-06A - Smart Siren II (don't have this yet, hope to get eventually)
After getting all the components together and reading the instructions/online tutorials, I learned that other people have had trouble getting this to all work. Some people make it sound like they got it to work, others only after the dealer did the entire install for them, and yet others say no way, impossible, a used TSSM without at least one original fob or PIN is worthless; I just don't know who's correct.
So I asked my more knowledgeable buddy from work for help, he talked to his indy mechanic friend, and was told my plan would work fine, but that I MUST have either one fob that was paired to the used TSSM - OR the PIN code that was used (if it was changed from the factory default). And that's where the problems begin.
The TSSM I purchased did not come with a fob (I bought fobs separately from someone else). It also didn't come with a PIN. I contacted the seller of the TSSM (a very reputable eBay motorcycle parts company/seller) to inquire about the PIN but I haven't heard back from them.
What I'd like to do is this:
1. Install the TSSM
2. Go through the password lean procedure to pair it to the ECU
3. Try the default PIN with my fingers crossed and hope it works
4. Drive to Chicago Harley and pay them to pair the fobs
My question is this: if I begin this this endeavor by doing numbers 1, 2, and 3 above, but screw something up by not having the correct PIN because it was changed from default by a previous owner, would that render the bike/ECU inoperable? Or would I at that point be able to just put the standard TSM back in and call the whole security system experiment a failure?
Thank you SO very much for any help or guidance you can provide.
P.S. The seller of the TSSM removed it from "A Good Running 2009 Harley Davidson Fat Bob FXDF" that they're parting out. Now that the TSSM is removed and with me, would they even be able to retrieve the PIN from the odometer? Thank you!
