Default pwilliams747 w/questions

hi everyone i'm new to the forum. quick question. i have an 08 softtail heritage. the bike has 3 stock chrome oil lines, two of the lines have braided inline stainless steel hoses midway on the oil line to the oil tank the third line known as the feed line at the bottom of the oil tank feeds the oil pump, it's a inline black rubber hose. i want to replace it with a similar braided stainless steel hose to match the other two lines. i don't see many bikes out there that has changed out that black rubber hose which gives me a clue there is a reason for this. i was told it's not a high pressure line and if i change it out it can not be crimped on, i would have to use hose clamps to secure it. has anyone replaced this hose without consequence or can someone advised otherwise? thank guys for info. on this.

Welcome! I have an '07 heritage and the short rubber hose on mine is cinch clamped on, so I don't see why a braided hose couldn't be. Its possible that the rigid lines are barbed or flared and once you get the braided line on the cinch clamp may not slide over the barbed area. My situation solved itself when I installed passenger footboards for the OL and now you can't barely see the hose. The black factory clamps may not fit over braided line. The silver clamps used for pex are slightly larger.

You don't have to use cinch clamps.

Default 08 heritage oil line

sorry guys for not getting back sooner. thanks for your info.. im told by an aircraft mechanic who owns two harleys. he advised harley engines and aircraft engine are similar in respect to a moderate amount of engine vibration, it's best to abandoned the idea using screw on hose clamps. engine vibration and heat may cause loosing of the screws resulting in oil leaks. thanks again.
