I own a 1998 Fatboy. It has 84,000 miles. The engine has an Andrews cam, Screamin' Eagle heads, Bub megaphone mufflers, and a Hawgsbreadth air cleaner. Of the 84,000 miles 40,000 have been with these modifications. Lately I have traced a 'clicking' noise to be within the valve covers. The noise seems to increase as the engine warms up. There is no noticeable decrease in performance. The noise is most noticeable while the engine is idling. I have recently changed the oil and cleaned the oil filter. I have a Pure Power oil filter and I use Harley Davidson Syn3 oil. Since the engine has so many miles on it is there a pushrod adjustment required that is not identified in the owner's manual? Or is there possibly some other cause? Is there a way to check oil flow to the heads short of engine disassembly?
