I am putting a strutless rear fender on my 2005 NT to fit a 200 tire kit. Not sure where to cut the frame/fender horns. Searched a couple of post but photos I've seen are from the rear and can't really tell.
Do I cut it down to the frame itself, or do I cut it up andafter the bend inthehorn?Pics ofany work in progress fromaside view would be great to see. Anyone have these?
Also, what do youuse to dosuch ajob?
Iamtrying to do most ofwhat I can by myself, but will have the dealerdo thefinally assembly and install which includes changing to a narrowbelt.
Any tips, info and pics would begreatly appreciated.
Thanks
Ken
I agree with Hammer, maybe you should just pony-up the cabbage and pay someone.I did my 180 kit on my own.I used a 4.5" angle grinder and cutting disc to cut the horns. My fender came with a template to cut them off.Do you have the new fender? If so, it should fit over the struts and you can mark it from the inside. If you go qith a 180 you can avoid the thinner belt, saving a lot of expense. It's not that much smaller anyway.
None taken. All comments/info is taken well, hopefully adding to my knowledge, or lack there of this case. HAHAHA.
Anyways, I am just doing the bare minimum on my own to get to know my bike a little better. Basically just took off the front fender, rear fender and struts, old splash guard, axle covers and belt guard. My friend is a machinist and has the tools to a least cut the horns off, just that the kit I bought did not identify exactly where to cut it, or have a templateasjimb indicated.
I have the HOGPRO kit with what I beleive is the RWD strutless fender.By just putting it over the stock horns looks like it way be ok cutting after the bend in the horn. Just wanted to know thoughts on if I should just go ahead and cut it to the frame.
I mean I can have my friend cut it after the bend and see if the new fender fits, and if not just cut it lower, but just wanted to see if anyone else has done this so wecan do it right the first time.
Yeah Hammer, the HogPro 06 - 07 is a direct bolt on for the stock 200 rear. For my 05 I would need to cut the fender horns. Completly different set up.
Any other tips, or concerns you think I should watch out for.
Thanks for all the info and precautions thus farguys.
Hey bugmann, just curious, that isn't a 200kit is it? Your bike looks awesome.
Bugman is right.Cut them as close to the frame as possible. You should be able to put the fender on with the frame horns on, it's the tire that won't fit between them.
