Its long overdue, but Ill finally have time to ride again soon. I rode regularly in my younger years, but its nearing 20 yrs since; no wonder some say Im grumpy.
Looking to buy new...
Wife says she will jump on back for dayrides and less than 250 mile trips. I will be cruising solo more often.
Question is can a Fatboy be made comfy enough for her with some type of touring type seating that can be
taken on and off without too much hassle? Or, do I go straight to touring bike?
I'm 60, wife is 62. I've test rode a Fatboy, and can tell you I would not want to ride 250 in a day on it, and I know Mary would not be up for it.
On the other hand, we both tour comfortably on a Heritage.
Below is the video review I did on the Fatboy a day or so after they were released.
The Heritage is sounding more practical for my plans; small sigh.... I wanted white
happy wife, happy life is high on the list too though
someone suggested the Road King. Pros/cons?
RK is 100# heavier. Lowest end of the H-D Touring models. Could be either a Pro or Con.
RK is only available with the M8-107. Neither a Pro or Con unless you want a 114.
Cost difference - nil.
I don't see White for either. Love my Twisted Cherry but Black is always beautiful...then so is the Olive, Blue, Silver.... Happy wife, let her pick the color!!!!!
If most of your riding will be solo, I still vote for a Heritage.
im new to harleys, I love my 09 heritage classic. deals are out there, Just bought month ago privately for 8k only 5000 miles on her! total steal . my wife is also happy with it compared to life on sport bikes. just did almost 400 mile ride over memorial day and she found herself dosing off!!
I have an RK and a Heritage. I vote for the Heritage as the best balance between fun and passenger comfort. Only drawback IMHO is single disc brake on the Heritage.

I can stop my Cherry on a dime with no effort what-so-ever. The single disc seems more than adequate. My son, who rides a Road Glide, loves how my bke stops.
Just recently had the lower profile rear and front suspension installed. Put the heavier fork oil in the Front. Now, very little front end dip when getting on the front Brakes. Did mot add any noticable stiffness to the ride.
