Default 2001 Softail Deuce

Hey guys, quick question. Im looking at adding another bike to the stable, question is:

It is a 2001 softail deuce with low miles, other than the chain tensioners, anything good or bad about this model? I believe that was the last year of the timken bearing, and a forged crank, is this correct? Other than age, what else is of concern.....?

2003 was the start of the changes on the bearings and crank.

..- I Think,,. The deuce was a one off production bike 99-07.. Parts could be hard to find for just that bike..Where as softail parts fits most softails, probably wont fit the deuce..
Forum members feel free to correct me..

The only real problem with this year is the magnetic marelli fuel injection. Yes, the parts are hard to come by. The price of the bike is fantastic and the miles on the bike are incredible...... if I have to go carb conversion, that might not be bad......

BEEE-U-TI-FUL!!! I had an '01 Deuce, sweet bike. Mine was red and black but I loved the white ones. Back in those days you took what you could get. As somebody else mentioned I believe '01 and '02 were the best years for the Twin Cams before the MoCo started "fixing things" that weren't broke. Looks like you've got everything on 'er that you'd ever need, parts shouldn't be a problem. There were some things that wouldn't fit the Deuce and some things for the Deuce that wouldn't fit anything else but all the basics; electrics, powertrain etc are all standard. Mine had a carb, I don't even remember if FI was an option on softtails in '01.

Congratulations and enjoy that bike.

I thought 2000 was the last year for Magneti Marelli EFI. Every HD wrench has told me the same thing. If you don't have a problem with it---just wait. You will. I will never own another bike with it.

I have a 04 and has never missed a beat. Has 50K on it. Still has original tensioner shoes. Spent all day on it Sunday.. I have replaced the brake light front switch and the rear one in the hydraulic line. Four sets of tires and 3rd set of brake pads and a couple plug changes. And of course an oil change every year or so. If it runs good and sounds good, no problem. The tensioner shoes if you do it yourself are $200 or so.
