Default Oil deflector in outer primary case

Does anyone know if the outer primary of 2015 softail deluxe has grooves on the inside for deflecting oil?
As far as I am aware, the 2008-2012 have oil deflectors. Some were attachable and others were permanent. But I am not sure if 2015 has permanent or attachable. I think the new SE compensator came in around 2012.

If you mean the oil deflector on the inside of the primary cover, that directs oil into the compensator.....

Yes, the 2015 has the oil deflector built-in to the inside of the primary cover.....

But those other dates are wrong....

Harley switched to a new style compensator in 2006. I was different from the shovel head/ EVO compensators. It was junk!! I don't have that first part number. The Shovel head/ EVO compensators were pretty much trouble free in comparison.

They upgraded that initial compensator in 2007. The part was #40296-06A. This was first redesign of the problematic compensators. There were many stories of compensator problems and failures with this one too........

They upgraded to a third version of that compensator in 2011. This was called the Screamin Eagle compensator and was an option prior to 2011. It was part #83935-09A. It was much better than its predecessor, but still had reported issues and failures..

They upgraded the compensator to a 4th version in 2014, now part #42200064A. It became OEM issue on the '14+ bikes. That is the compensator that uses a deflector, to direct oil into the splines of the compensator. This version has proven to be the most reliable of the three...

The 2014+ bikes have the defector built-in to the primary cover. If you want to add the newest compensator to an '07-'13 bike, you will need to glue the included deflector into the inside of your OEM primary cover, or buy a '14+ primary cover (at a cost of about $200).

If you want to replace the compensator in an '07-'10 bike, you will also need to replace the stator, as the older stators are not compatible with the newer, better compensators...

They changed the compensator again, in '17, for the M8 engine bikes..... not sure if that was a redesign of the '14, or an entirely new concept & design ...

NOTE: I tried to cover the main changes in the twin cam compensators. There were actually many minor changes along the way, in addition to the larger changes, I tried to highlight.....

Thanks hattitude! That was a great write-up. I appreciate.
So for the 2015 models, if one wants to replace the OEM compensator with the Baker one, he/she has to either grind out the deflector grooves or get an older version of the outer primary cover without the oil deflector grooves?

I've never installed a Baker comp. If they say you need to grind out the deflector groves from the primary, then for 2015 models with an OEM primary cover, you will need to do some grinding...

Default Baker Compensator and Outer Primary Cast Oil Deflector

Hi everyone, I have a 2013 CVO FLHRSE5 and I just purchased a new Baker 730-67 Compensator and a new Low Profile outer primary cover. I have seen some post that you have to grind out the cast in oil deflector. Is this true? I spoke to Baker and said it is not necessary and no modifications are needed even with the low profile primary cover. Also with the low profile cover can you use the T70 torx bolt supplied? Thanks
