Default 107 vs 114 Heritage Classic

Is the 114 worth it over the 107 in the Heritage Classic? Is there really much difference between them?

Best way to answer your question is. It’s like a proper done up grade stage kit. And to go really test ride both and make your own decession. And see if the upgrade fits in your budget. To me it’s a total easy check box to mark.

Stock for Stock?

Nope.

I've been on 107 and 114 Softails back to back.

Is there a difference in power? Yes

Is it so overwhelmingly that I felt the need to plunk down two extra grand? Not in the slightest...

No there's not much difference stock man.
But will it stay stock?
If going for more power or torque the 114 might be a better place to start.
I have to admit though that I own an 18 Street Blob that is a 107CI and I am so very very impressed with this little bike.

Is the extra money worth what honestly amounts to bragging rights ?

Dunno about you, but I will never ‘race’ my Harley around like it’s a sports bike... I like a bit of ‘oompf’ now and again and I get plenty from my 107.

With adding on tuner, air cleaner, Hollywood bars and the paint option of my choice, I was already over Ł19k, so there was no way I felt the need to add another Ł1.5k for a questionable increase in power, when I feel the 107 is plenty enough for me.

To be honest, my dealer pretty much agreed, saying unless you’re gonna do even more upgrades to squeeze every last bit of power out fo the bike, there’s little point in the 114

the harley engine is under square, which means stroke is longer than bore is wide. it gives the engine a tractor torque feel. the 114, regardless of speed, increases this torque feeling. it's great.

I rode the 107 at one dealership and the 114 at another, on a different day. I didn't beat either up on the test ride, since at least one of them would be somebody else bike.

I did not notice a difference between the two.

I bought the 114.

I would have gotten abs regardless, and the remaining price difference wasn't in my view, significant. I liked the look the air cleaner cover better on the 114 and I knew I was going to do a stage II, so not having to replace it, further reduced the price difference. And I figured if I was to sell the bike in the future, the larger engine would be a plus.

I have since done the stage II with the HD torque cam. Love it. And I'm sure I would have loved the 107, too. The Heritage is a great bike!

The 114 makes about 10 more hp/tq than the 107. Not bad for $1,400 difference and bigger gains if you tweak it down the road. My Stage 2 114 is about equal to a stage 3 107. Do I use the extra oomph? All the time as it’s noticeabld right off idle.

For those who’ve ridden both (I did) unless they were both broken in past 1,000 miles there’s no way to really compare them. These motors are very tight until they’ve been run in properly.

All that said:
I think the 107 is a great motor that anyone would be happy with. I happen to have a 114 and I’ve never regretted it or wondered if I missed out by not getting a 107.

That's another good couple of points.

Both motors are very tight when new. I didn't really feel as if my bikes motor was starting to loosen by by around the 4,500 mile mark. Same with the trans.

Second point is ABS. As far as I know, for 2018, the only way to get an M8 Softail without ABS is in a 107. And not having ABS was a priority for me.

In the grand scheme of things, you really won't miss out on either of the M8 motors.
