Default "Early" vs "late" model 1996 FLSTF Fatboys

Hello!

I am trying to purchase new gas caps for our 1996 FLSTF Fatboy and need to know if it is an "early" or "late" model 1996. What does that even mean? LOL!

Anyhow, any help in figuring this out would be great! (I have the VIN but looking that up has given me diddly squat so far!)

Harley's bring out their new models in August, can only imagine an early '96' is one brought out between January and August, and a late one brought out after that, although the early one would be a 95 bike. Wouldn't have thought either way the gas cap would be any different, but who knows.
or it could be say an August to February 96 which would be the early model, and after that is a late model, be easier just to buy both caps if they're both on offer. Know wonder nobody else has answered this question.

Yep they changed mid year...some aftermarket caps will fit both...some won't.

Easiest way to tell an early 96 from a late is to look under the seat...the late 96's have a fuse box under there...the early's do not.
