I just installed the Ness 3" extensions for the foot controls on my 07 night train. I like the foot position, but stepping on the rear break feels awkward now. I have to lift my heal a lot to get the proper leverage down on the brake. I bled the brakes properly and filled the reservoir to an 1/8" of the top per the service manual. I was wondering if there is any adjustment to be made to the lever itself...to bring it higher/closer so im not having to lift my heal so much to engage the brake. I couldn't find any such ajustment in the service manual...maybe I need a new lever?
RE: Rear brake adjustment after ness 3" extensions?
I got that same (soft pedal) feeling when I installed the Ness 3" forward extensions...it's due to the brake pedal bieng moved out the 3" that gives it that feeling...after two bleeding sessions it still felt the same...I couldn't find any way to adjust the pedal...I just got used to it.
RE: Rear brake adjustment after ness 3" extensions?
OK...cool. I thought it was just me. The pedal does feel softer, but like you I bled the brakes twice and pushed a lot of bubble-free fluid through the lines to be sure they were bled propperly. I guess I just have to get used to it. Thanks!
RE: Rear brake adjustment after ness 3" extensions?
mine felt the same way. Got the thick H-D chrome pad. About 3/16" 1/4" thick brings the pedal back to where it feels right. Had the same problem with soft pedal. Used a mity vac. Had a lot of air I thought I bled out before.

ORIGINAL: back again

I had the same issue...very soft....bled it a few times and it got better...i have no problem with foot placement to apply the rear brakes...it feels natural where my feet are, but pedal still a lil soft...as long as they work

Remove the pin in the lever where it attaches to the master cylnder and move the lever back to it's normal position and redrill the pin location. Insert the pin and you have your old position back. Takes about 20 minutes.
RE: Rear brake adjustment after ness 3" extensions?
Great idea Luckybob! I may try that. Also, I bled the brakes again after riding with the soft pedal for a while and was able t oget a little air out of the line. It's a bit firmer now...thanks all!
