hey all, long time lurker, dont post much big fan of the search. this time im stumped. about 2 weeks ago got caught in some wet weather. got home and washed the bike. bike then sat almost 2 weeks (bad weather,no time) fast foward to yesterday, went to take bike out for a spin and my engine light stayed on. first time this has happened. searched online and found a couple ways to pull codes. the code i pulled from the speedo was d08set. looked in my service manual, says voltage to speedometer high. orange/white wire. what does this mean. i cleared the code but the engine light is still on after bike is running.after much research on web ( there isnt much) i put a meter on my battery to check voltage, 12.5/13 idle to no more than 14.5 at 3000rpm or higher. the bike runs fine fine and all lights work. light dont go brighter/dimmer with rpms. manual also states it may take 50 run cycles to clear stored codes. havent ridden yet as a little weary. any and all imput would be greatly appreciated. ive had this bike almost 5 years with absolutely no issues. thanks, carl
The last time I had high voltage to my speedo it was like 19 volts at my speedo. The speedo was not working and there was no reading on the doo/trip meter. At rest my batt. Was like 12.9 volts at 3000 rpm it showed 19 volts turned out my voltage
regulator went out. So it sounds to like there's somthing up with your charging sys. , I'd check easy stuff first like grounds
batt. Cables etc.
hey, thanks for the advise. couple things though. i did check the charging system, used voltmeter across batterry. showed 12.9/13 at idle no more than 14.5 reved up past 3k, bike has a tach. so im assuming all ok there. pulled a code using jumper wire across terminals 1 and 2 in diag port. counted the engine light flashes which was code 44 bank angle sensor. dont know why, bike never been down. at this point im guessing its a stored fault code which according to the manual should clear after 50 drive cycles. btw called the local hd dealer to see if they scan bikes( autozone does for free) 41.50$ for 1/2 hour. dont want to just throw parts at it so may just pay the dealer to know exactly what it is and clear the code. carl
Update...went take bike for a ride..went to start.dead. just clicking. Happened yesterday and assumed that it was from turning key on an d off multiple times. Anyway put on charger and fired right up. Made it to end of my street and no more engine light on.weird. went for a short ride mixed speeds no problem. Bike now on a tender to try to bring battery back up. Carl

That's not normal. 12.9/13 at idle is low. The battery should be at 12.7 when charged. Sounds like you have a stator or regulator problem. My 2006 is 14 at idle, and it doesn't vary much at all with RPM. I am guessing it's your stator, since it goes to proper voltage at higher RPM.
