Default 2002 FXDX Engine Light Flashing

Out riding last night and my engine light on the speedo started flashing.

My dumb azz realized I was riding with the choke on.

Turned it off.

Engine light still flashing. Speedo started to go haywire and odometer shut off. Engine seemed to be running fine.

Got to my destination. Bike was off for about 2 hours.

Started it up with no problem. Reved the engine.... engine light flashing, speedo still erratic, and odometer on off. At idle all gauges function properly.

I've been searching for a solution all morning. Bought the electrical diagnostic manual but it wont be here for a few days. Seems like the voltage regulator may be the culprit according to what I'm seeing online.

Planning to test battery voltage after work.

Anyone have a similar issue/ solution? Help is appreciated.

Tested the battery voltage while the bike was off. 13V

Started the bike, when I rev'd the throttle the voltage spiked to 17-18V.

Most definitely the voltage regulator.

Easy fix.

Maybe this will help someone out in the future if they have a similar issue.
