Default Heated gear use

does my Heritage have enough juice to run heated gear...mostly gloves and a jacket or vest? Can I tap into the tender wiring? The battery looks like a bear to get to.

Yes on both. The new M8 have upgraded alternators supplying all the power you need for normal operation and heated gear. I wire direct to the battery through a fused lead. Will be tacking this same problem on my 18 Heritage shortly.

Im certainly no expert .. but ...

Humm .. well .. I say .. you would need to look at what the amp draw is on your heated stuff and any other bike accessories ... lights phone charging etc etc.

Then look up in your owners manual the output of the electrical system. I have a Deluxe and mine says " 40–44 A maximum output" .. I thought I saw an upgrade available for the M8 if needed. Anyway ....

With only 44 amps max .. a; lets say as an example, 2amp constant phone charge is something to pay attention to .. doesn't seem like much on its own, but collectively with all other draws its big. If you look at this table https://www.gerbing.com/battery-harness-installation ... you can see that the jacket and gloves suck up 9.1 amps (if using gerbings). Thats 20 percent of the entire (MAX) 44 amp output.=centerPRODUCTGLOVESINSOLES/SOCKSJACKETPANTSVEST=centerAMP DRAW2.21.26.94.54.5=centerper pairper paireacheacheach
I would at least try to do some basic math if you can.

But I personally dont really have to worry about this .. the Softy is getting ready for dry dock. Once it gets chilly Im riding the Wing. I can strap a fridge to that bike and still have plenty of amps for other stuff. Being behind the Fairing is a plus too.

Regards

EDIT ..
Sorry the Gerbings table came over ugly .. visit the link. I invite your attention to the comments given below the table.

I've got a heated jacket, gloves, pants and socks. I wired the outlet directly to the battery. I worried about amp draw, so I monitored the voltage readout, and even with the controller set to maximum heat output, the voltage never dropped below 14v.

This is on a Fat Bob, so.not a direct comparison, but as long as you have an LED headlight, I would suspect your bike has plenty of excess electrical output to support heated clothing.

Edit: this is all assuming a 2018 or 2019 M8 Heritage. If you have a Twin Cam Heritage, the above probably won't apply.

Yes, most newer heated gear is designed to work directly off the charging lanyard. Very simple.

I've run heated pants, jacket, and gloves from my '17 SGS, so you should be fine. However, I've seen mention in Harley's info NOT to use the Battery Tender wire. Harley's heated gear often comes with a fused battery connection. Also, many of the newer heated items have switched from 12 volts to 7.4 volts, so watch which voltage gear you buy. One more thing - heated gear usually uses a coaxial power connector, not the SAE type the battery tender uses.

In most cases the tender wire is large enough but the fuse is not.
And some/most heated gear has a different plug than the tender end.
