2015 HD Heritage Softail
Here's the issue: In the India traffic, if I happen to hit a traffic jam, and run the engine on low gears alternating between 1st and 2nd gear, for as less a time as 10 minutes... Engine starts knocking, missing and sometimes the bike just turns off on its own and wouldn't start. If i try to crank it, the self starter doesn't push all the way and bike doesn't start. If I just let the bike cool down for 30 minutes or so, then it starts. I am using Vance and hines exhausts - long shots.
Becoming a major issue. What could it be? PLEASE HELP!!
My first suggestion would be to ensure you're using synthetic oil. My second suggestion would be to look at an oil cooler of some sort.
For mechanical issues, I wouldn't know where to start you out looking for an issue.
Hello Will. I'm already using synthetic oil. That's a standard here given the warm India weather. I'm thinking of running maps on the FP3, to try and get the tuning right (if that's causing and issue).. plus trying the love jugs. Oil cooler is definitely one of the ideas on the table. Thanks for comingc in man 👍
If you replaced the exhaust but haven't changed the tune to match it's probably running lean an lean is hot. there are also cooling fan kits available the go where the horn is located an blow air on the cylinders to help cool them.

Let me get this straight, you are running aftermarket exhaust and no tuner?
Most if not all exhaust manufactures recommend (they put it in writing) you should run a tuner with there product.
Have you updated the air filter, if not put that on your list of things to do (fairly inexpensive).
While you are ordering that, (if you have not) order the tuner.
I have the FP3 (some like it some don't), adding exhaust without a tuner (generally) will make your bike run hotter than it already did (not a good thing).
If you run the FP3 take a little time and do some U-Tube searches in setting it up before you start (make sure to update the software first).
I certainly don't live in a hot climate line India, however I have done some things to cool down the bike.
I would say the biggest change was the oil cooler.
It dropped my oil temp down 20-25 degrees.
Just make sure you get an oil cooler that has fans.
An oil cooler in stop and go traffic without fans just won't do that much.
I highly recommend the UltraCool
Second is the fuel tuner.
After getting it turned right I got the oil temp to drop another 10 degrees or so.
I'm running only a Fuel Pak but it's doing the job.
Third is the Love Jugs.
These don't lower the oil temp but they differently lower the head temp.
The only drawback of the Love Jugs is that hot air has to go somewhere and that somewhere is your right leg.
Just get a Capt Itch crotch cooler and that will make it bearable.
I think given the climate you're in you should consider the three add-ons that I have.
