Default 18 FXFBS Full Rear Fender?

Does anyone know of a full rear fender that will fit on my 18 Fat Bob? I've been searching everywhere and can't find anything that will fit for sure. Since I couldn't find anything, I kinda started thinking of a Street Bob fender but since the rear tire on the Street Bob is a 150 I don't know if it would work or if the rear of the Street Bob frame and the witdth between the fender supports, the shape of the fender supports and bolt holes are the same as the rear of the Fat Bob.

Also thought about the 18 Low Rider Fender since it also has a 180 rear tire, but again I don't know if it would work and be a direct swap and I don't particularly like the brake light on the fender. Any information on this?

Can someone with an 18 Street Bob or Low Rider measure the widths between your fender supports and share the measurements and pics of the fender supports? It would be greatly appreciated.

I figure since I have to replace the rear fender anyway I may as well try to find a full fender that will bolt up to it as the replacement. I would like to eliminate the crud that gets thrown up on my back and on the rear of the bike with the chopped fender as well as make the bike look better overall.

As long as you stay within the compatible years and tire width you can drill new strut holes. That's what I did on my 94 Softail Custom. I used a 98 Fatboy fender.

Don’t immediately disqualify the tail light... More light to the rear = more visibility = maybe better chance not to be rear ended. I always look to add as much light back there as realistically possible. With your experience I’d think you may agree. Since you’ll be getting the fender for free, if you had to replace the struts (they come off with two bolts) i’d bet it would be an easy swap. When I did the exact same thing to my old Low Rider S, installing the standard Low Rider rear fender was a simple bolt in job. Even the new wiring harness plugged tight in for instant support of the new tail light. No ECM flash needed.

Stop by a dealer and measure the distance between the fender strut bolts, I’d bet they are the same. That will mean a E-Z job... You’ll just need the fender, underside back plates, you’re probably looking at new struts anyway, so if you need Low Rider ones, ther’re free as well then, aren’t they? Then just the Harness and lights.

Interesting project, keep us posted

Looking at your photos again, you’ll definitely need new fender struts. I’m hoping the frame isn’t bent, but i’d bet the struts bend long before the frame will. Anyway, if the bob strut fender bolt pattern doesn’t match the Low fender, then you would need the LR struts. Only problem is they are chrome only. So you’d probably want to have them PC’d to match. So add a week or two to get that done...

If you didn't already know, your Fat Bob seat is not going to fit right if you swap rear fenders & fender struts from a Low Rider, Street Bob or a Sport Glide. The seat will need to be replaced too.

Yes I noticed that today. No low riders or street bobs in stock at the dealership to measure so this mod will just have to be put on hold for the time being.

There are aftermarket fenders that are blanks, and you drill your own holes.
You're going to have to paint it anyway unless you're lucky enough to find one in your color.

I've been looking at these as the next resort. The OEM fender has already been ordered so I have some time to get it figured out. I'll be sure to post updates as I get this little project going after my bike is back in my possession.

You don’t want to try and get most of it paid for by insurance? As long as the prices are the same (or you pay the diff. and it’s OEM stuff your dealer shouldn’t care?

Seems like a waste of time and money to fix it back to original if you’re going to turn around and buy the parts to do the conversion anyway?
