Deuce bar swap or risers and bars
I'm 6'2 so would like the bar a bit taller and i like the pullback look on the deuce more than apes on my wide glide. Not wanting to get into doing cables again, so something that wont require that would be great. TIA
I recently installed 11" mini-apes on my 2002 Deuce, reusing the stock riser, for a total of 16" of height. My first ride with this set up was this afternoon. Nearly 50* in Michigan in December. I was surprised how much more comfortable my bike is with these new bars.
Along with the bars, I needed 1 each of the following:
- ~37" Throttle cable (measurements are goofy, it's actually something like 36-11/16" or something....)
- ~37" Idle Cable
- 50" brake line and fittings (Note, this replaces the entire length of the hard and soft lines that come stock)
- ~69" Clutch Cable
- Wiring extensions for controls (Namz 8" kit)
- A few feet of 7/16" PVC tubing
A few notes:
- You will have to remove the fuel tank to extend the wiring.
- My front signals were already relocated to the forks, so I didn't need to extend those.
- I installed the Namz kit backwards, purposely. The instructions tell you to install the extra wiring length from the harness side, under the tank. This then places the Deutsch connectors out into the triple trees. Extending the wiring from the controls side allowed me to re-use the stock connector location under the tank, where the connectors clip on to the frame. If you take a look at the kit, this will make sense. They basically supply wiring lengths with a male and female Deutsch terminal crimped to each end. I also wasn't happy with the supplied shrink-wrap to cover the wiring, so I purchased some PVC tubing, separately.
- The new brake line "floats" in the P-clamps that held the original hard line in place...I will be purchasing some smaller-diameter p-clamps to securely hold the line. My fear being the clamps will eventually rub through the brake line.
- I took this opportunity to install the "reduced effort clutch kit", since i was pulling off the transmission cover, anyway. I was jealous how easy the clutch moves on my buddy's 2006 fatboy...turns out the reduced effort kit became stock equipment around 2005-2006.
