I ride with a friend who rides a Fat Boy , no shieldno complaints. Me , I don't feel I'm giving any thing up with a shield. Yesterday I hit a bug, right in front of my face. If that big sucker had hit me I'd still be cleaning it out of my nose. There's a little distortion , but the ware and tear on my arms, neck, and back. No way. Warg ! An 1800 mile trip, no shield. Talk about a lead butte. My helmet's off to you !
Gotta have the windshield! One of the first purchases I made after I got the bike. Scoffed momentarily at the look, but then rode with it the first time and I was sold. I'm used to the way it looks now and when I see a bike without, it seems something is missing. Rode one time in the last year with it off...don't expect I'll do that again. HATE sucking on bugs!!
My Heritage was my first Harley with a windshield and after 6400 miles I can't believe I never had one before. There have been a few ocasions where I would have had a bird sh*t lunch if I did not have it. Took me a little while to get used to it, because the Heritage comes with a rather tall one that you look through instead of over it. Now I don't even know it's there until bird or bug lunch flies at me.
People tell me that my Windvest adds to the look of my bike.
I think it's more about age. I'm 48, and I've eaten my share of bugs and road grit. I don't need to "feel" cool anymore...
