I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I'd like input from anyone who has put a fairing on their Heritage. The ones I am seeing clip on with the same windshield hardware. So did you like the look? Did it help reduce wind? And what brand did you use? Pros and cons welcomed.
I put reckless fairings on my 06 heritage and my wife’s boulevard. Love the stereo options,Bluetooth, radio. Really appreciate the hand protection especially when colder. Actually have more buffeting from under sides of fairings than the quick release windshields but not enough to take them off. Have tried different windshield heights you can definitely feel it coming from bottom curve of the batwings. Even tried some different angles. Again not enough to change or put fangs or lowers on. Rode them with black gloss gel coat for last year to make sure we liked them enough. Had them painted to match over winter. Putting them together right now. Also put HD hard bags off of Amazon on both of them.
I have a Deluxe (lower but very similar).
Brand (good question) I bought it used.
Why because I took it home and started cutting
I wanted mine to fit tighter, closer to a factory fairing bike.
So did you like the look? I do with the changes madeDid it help reduce wind? Yes (especially with the right set up & windshield)
when I brought it home
This is the piece I removed so the fairing could fit tighter.I also sliced and diced the mounting brackets and moved the holes in the fiber glass so the fairing nestled the head light/driving lights and the handle bars. The one mistake I made was getting it a little to close (tough to adjust the volume with gloves on) so I just use the volume on my phone.
Im riding a Fatboy, but basically the same as a Heritage.
I added a fairing back , went the more inexpensive route using the Memphis Shades Batwing Fairing, it is quick release, uses the same brackets as their windshields, on or off in under a minute. It is just the shell so it doesnt have a radio etc but with the pouches you can add to the inside I have used a bluetooth speaker and my phone in the pouch or my phone and ear buds.
What i like about it is it doesn't add any more noticeable weight to the front end over a regular full sized windshield. I tend to use it often for any days Im riding more than 50 miles, I still have 2 different sized windshields but almost never use them.
Cost about $ 250 if you have the correct brackets on your bike, if you need to get Memphis Shades Brackets another $ 100 so total about $ 250 and if you have HD windshields you can add MS hardware so the windshield and fairing are interchangeable in a minute without tools
