Default Riser Bushings

Here is the deal , I just had 16" apes installed on my Fatboy . Had the local Indy do the install , he recommended using the rubber bushings . I am not a fan of these so far . There is just too much play for me in the bars . Question how difficult is it to change the bushings out and what is involved ?

It's cake.

I changed mine out when I did the bars, was like 20 mins, ...... and I'm not a great wrench.

That's on the '07 Fatboy though.

Stick your finger in, pull 'em out and replace with new poly ones. Easy.

It is absolutely essential to have the polyurethane bushings with apes. I had a set crack in half on me because of the play in the risers withrubber bushings. To take them off you unbolt the risers by removing the nuts on the underside of your triple trees. You might need a cheater bar here and be sure to cover your tank with something. You lift up the bars with risers still attached to them. Pull off the rubber bushings and replacewith the polyurethane. It might need a little nudge to get it in there. Then bolt everything back together the same way it came apart. Easy job for even the least mechanically inclined.

I agree with Spike, they are essential with apes.Do like he said, the only other thing I might suggest would be an extra set of helping hands to helpcontrol the bars,so as to avoid any accidents.I got the bushings from the local HD dealer, because I didn't want to wait for delivery. They seem to work just fine.

When I did mine, I did one side at al time. That kept the bars from falling onto the tank. The poly bushings will make a HUGE difference. When I first put my apes on, I kept the stock rubber bushings in place... I could move the bars back and forth a couple of inches. After installing the poly bushings, it's like the risers are welded to the top triple tree. A vast improvment handling-wise.

Cheers!

I honestly don't remember the brand. I just know that they were red. I really don't think the brand is all that important in this case though. Any poly bushing that is easy for you to get ahold of should work just fine. Also, it is a good idea to have someone help hold the forks in place for you and keep the bars from falling.
