I purchased the DK 1.5 tank lift for my 16FB about a year ago. I waited until the tank was close to empty to install it. I did end having to remove the stock cross tubing and use the one DK included in the kit as well as hose clamps as apposed to the stock crimp on. Also I went to the auto parts store and picked up a new vent hose as the stock wasn't long enough. Then because the new vent tube didn't have the original formed bend, I ended up not getting proper ventilation which caused fuel to be pushed out of the fill cap when riding when the tank was full. What a pita! In the end, I made my own stainless steel lift at 1.625" with welded nuts as the DK was a bit of an issue getting the nuts on. Also ended up using the stock vent tubing along with a piece of steel tubing and a short piece of rubber tubing which solved the leaking and hissing tank issue. In all, one of my favorite mods that will stay on the bike forever. Basically the hour install ended up taking a few days so I could make the new brackets and figure everything out. As for gas mileage, I think I lost about a quarter to a half gallon.
On mine, the cross tube wouldn't allow the tank to lift any more than maybe an inch or so. I ended up removing the tank completely in the end. Also my bike has a formed rubber wire/frame cover which now doesn't exactly fit right. But it is only noticeable by me.
Thanks bones3! I have no idea if the 08 heritage has the fuel cross tube? I guess you dont have the manual? I dont remember anything else keeping the tank from lifting, but it was last year and my memory isn't what it used to be. I do like the way the tank now sits when I am riding. It changed that as well. Good luck and hope it works out.
1.5" up front. .5" for the rear. No problem with the stock crossover hose. 09 Heritage. I used 1/8 inch gasket material to fill the tunnel in front of the tank. I cut it in a u and it blends in with the existing rubber boot
