Default No Security PIN

Hey Folks!

I just bought a 2015 Heritage from a used motorcycle dealer in Pennsylvania. Unfortunately, the previous owner did not write down the PIN for the security fob in the user's manual. Any ideas on how to get it? The Harley dealership near me said that I should contact the Harley dealership that originally sold the bike...and I plan on doing that...but, that's going to take some investigative work.

Any help?

Thanks!

Dave

If you have the owner's manual (you mentioned a user's manual), check there. For the 2016 Softails, the procedure for changing the PIN is in the manual, and it says the current PIN is displayed during the process.

Don't know if it's the same for 2015, but here's the 2016 procedure:
  1. With fob present, turn ignition to off
  2. Turn ignition to IGN
  3. Cycle off/run switch twice: RUN - OFF - RUN - OFF - RUN
  4. Press left turn signal switch two times. Enter PIN will scroll through odometer window.
  5. Pre right turn signal switch one time and release. Signals will flass three times, and current PIN will show in odometer window, first digit flashing.
  6. Enter first digit of PIN by pressing/releasing left turn signal switch until desired number appear
  7. Press right turn signal switch one time and release
  8. Repeat previous two steps (6 & 7) to set remaining PIN digits
  9. Turn engine stop switch to OFF, then turn ignition switch to OFF. (Pushing the engine stop switch to OFF stores new new PIN).

From I have read as long as you have a working fob you can change the pin, doesn't mater what the old pin is. Ride safe.

Your local dealer is full of it. The dealer can put the bike on their analyzer and read it, and reset the code. I bought my bike when it was a year old and I had the same problem. I also had an extra fob that came with the bike that didn't work. It was apparently the wrong fob for the bike. They reset that too.

Edit: Just bring your tile with you. They are likely reluctant to do it because of liability. You know, if they changed the code on a stolen bike and such..

crphoenix,

You're right. I meant to say Owner's Manual. In any event, I followed the instructions on Page 78 of the manual (which pretty much match the ones you posted) and was able to set my own PIN. I guess I could have read the instructions before posting the question!

Thanks!

How did you do that? You have to know the current PIN to change to a new one. If you don't, then there's no point in having a PIN.

At least that the case on my bike.

Having the fob allows you to discover the existing pin and/or set a new one. The pin isn't a second line of defense, it's just there for if you lose the fob or have a dead battery in the fob.
