Default running lights

2008 Night Train. Riding tonight, hit the hi beam switch and lost my running lights and hi beam. Low beam and turn signals still work, rear taillight/brake light works as well. Will trouble shoot an am. Any suggestions where to start? Fuses, bulbs, etc Thanks

Not familiar with running lights but when I had similar troubles with my Evo Heritage it turned out to be a bad connection in the headlamp connector.

Its a start.

Running lights or do you mean driving lights?

Sounds like your high beam is burned out.
I think it's normal for the aux lights to go off when you switch to high beams (a common mod is to change the wiring to keep them on).

Assuming the OP's bike is stock, a 2008 NT does not have driving lights. The OP is confusing driving lights and running lights.

On a Harley, driving lights, also known as passing lights, are 4" lamps that sit on each side of the headlamp. They are not the turn signals. They can be turned on and off with a switch.

Running lights are lights that stay illuminated, day and night, when the bike is running. On a Harley, the front turn signals are running lights but the rear turn signals are not unless the wiring is changed, a special harness is installed or a run/brake/turn module is used.

With that in mind, it sounds like your rear turn signals are working as they should. They only light when you activate the turn signals. Your front turn signals should be on at all times and flash when you activate the turn signals. The front turn signals use a dual filament bulb while the rear signals use a single filament bulb. If your front turn signals are not "on" when your bike is running then one of the filaments is bad in that turn signal and the bulb needs to be replaced.

Thanks Doc - replaced the bulbs for the front running lights and that issue is resolved. Replaced headlight bulb thinking that the high beam filament was shot. Turn on the bike, and low beam functioning, hit the high beam switch and the light went out. I will have to check the wiring for the plug to the headlight and see if it's getting power. Seems odd that wire connection for only the high beam crapped out. Thanks for the help

Not sure if this will help but years ago I had a sport bike that did the same thing ended up unplugging the harness from the light and cleaned and greased the plug. Plugged it back in everything worked.
