Default Knee starts aching

I have a Heritage Softail Classic -2008. I’ve owned it 3 years. Beautiful bike. Runs well. However, when I run it long distances my knee starts aching. I’ve extended the floorboards out a little and up a little, but my knee still start aching. On my 2002 Road King, I have a similar set up but I don’t have that same issue. Have any of you experience that as well? I’ve had lotta knee problems over the years from sports and I know that’s contributing to it, but what is the difference in the motorcycles? Don’t want to get rid of the motorcycle, but I hate not being able to ride longer rides on it.

Seats, (especially) handlebars alter riding positions. No 2 bikes feel the same even if setup is the same and are the same year. Friend of mine liked the setup on my UC so he mimicked it on his. Bikes are the same year and type. His feels completely different.

As said, seats and handlebars/risers complement each other to bring the rider into a position that may relieve stress on joints. Also highway bars with pegs help to stretch things out even more. I've got an Explorer seat that brings me up and back, 4" risers under my factory bars, and a mustache bar with begs. All three were needed to get the bike to the point where my knees or neck did not ache. It can be an expensive search, but well worth it in the end. Good luck!

Seat, handlebars, etc are great. Only one knee is affected. I’ve had 2 surgeries on that knee and the meniscus is about gone. I wonder if the “sitting down in the bike” puts a different bend in the the knee vs the Road King.

Definitely, gonna have to try to get as close to the same feel as your other bike. Suggestions above are good. But all that takes time and money. You may get it close but it wont be the same. Seat and bars (or risers) are where I start. Like I said, that game in itself is costly. I've had 3 rt knee surgeries and need to stretch out to. Find someone with the same bike if possible and check out their setup before you start throwing money at it.

When my knee acts up I put on a soft elastic brace. Maybe just try more rest stops during a long ride.

Highway pegs and the floor boards makes it a nice ride with bars that have my arms straight out 👍

I like that idea. May be the key.
