TUNERS BEWARE!
Here is my 2018 Harley Fat Boy the day it goes to auction. Why? Because after I built the bike, I sent it out and had it dyno tuned as I do with all my builds. A month later I brought it to my local dealer to have a new speedometer installed under warranty. As with any warranty work they had to plug it in to their computer and because of the after market tune, my power train warranty was voided and even more importantly, my Vin Number was flagged
(non-compliant).
Once this happens it can NOT be reversed.
Although this was an expensive lesson, Im grateful it happened to my bike, not a customer.
This issue involves only 2017 and newer bikes. If you plan to stick with HD Screamin Eagle components and their weak SE tuner, your fine but if your build gets any stronger then that, forget it!
pretty common on any vehicle. So how cheap are we going to sell it at auction now. Sorry it happend to you.
I think if you research it they have that magnusson moss warranty act.. the tune would have to be directly related to the failure for them to deny warranty
Hi there, could you tell me which are those mini apes, odd question perhaps but did you blackout a fatboy recently, I keep searching for that hing with no success?
BTW - nice Berner.
Ok, ok, let me get this straight. You are selling your awesome built new beautiful Fatboy that you've probably dumped a boatload of money in , because you gotta pay for a new speedo? When ya built the engine with awesome aftermarket performance upgrades, did ya really think your warranty would still be good? My God, fix it and ride it!!!???
Oh? Wait, I re-read it. Your saying your aftermarket Dyno ruined your warranty. That don't sound right. That has nothing to do with speedo failure. Anyways if I had to, I'd eat the speedo cost and keep that sucker.
It’s not the damn warranty I’m worried about, hell, I through that out the window as soon as I get a new bike home. It’s a flagged vin number that ruined the bike. Once it’s flagged, it’s flagged, non compliant with the EPA. There will come a time when this motorcycle will not be able to be registered, especially here in California..
if your worried about your damn warranty, leave your bike stock!
Of the dozen bikes I’ve owned and built over the years, this was my FIRST experience in a HD service department. It won’t happen again!

ahh damn i gotcha that does suck EPA is starting to crack down on this stuff....
hell i have heard they are starting to bust peoples *** here in TX for the deleted and tuned diesels
I’m going to explain something because it seems a lot of you don’t understand..
If you own a ‘17 or later Harley Davidson motorcycle, and you decide to tune it with any tuner other then a Screamin’ Eagle tuner and you then bring your bike into a Harley Davidson dealer for anything, the first thing they will do is plug your bike into their diagnostic tool. As soon as that tool recognizes an after market tune, it automatically sends a flag to both HD and the EPA and your bike and vin number now has become “non-compliant”
My dealer took the bike back, I bought a new Heritage, and the dealer has no choice but to send it to auction.

Oh, so YOU are not sending it to auction the dealer is. When you say "My dealer took the bike back" do you mean they gave you what you paid for it or you simply traded it in and bought a Heritage? It seems to me you are embellishing your story a bit.

What many people are doing is reflashing the ECM with their stock tune before taking it to a dealer. Why? To prevent what happened to you.
Are you sure they didn't void your warranty because you use a K&N air filter?
