Default 2008 FLSTC, Ordered today

Hello All,
I have been watching and reading these forums constantly for the last 2 weeks as I debated whether or not to buy a new bike, and which one to by. This forum has been a great help to me and I want to thank all that read and post here. Your thoughts and suggestions are really useful.

I just put money down this morning on a 2008 Heritage Softail (Dark Blue Pearl) that will be here in mid-August. I need your help. The dealer wants me to get a list of accessories that I want on the bike so that they can order them and have them here when the bike arrives so they can get them on ASAP.

My question to you is, in your opinion, is there any accessories that should be considered a must on a new FLSTC? I have been reading a lot about the Stage 1 kit, pipes and a fuel management system. But I am tempted to run it stock to the 1000 mile service until I get the feel of the bike.

What are your thoughts? I love to see pics of what you have done if possible for ideas.

Thanks!

Evan

Congrats and welcome to the forum!

I agree the stage 1 upgrades would be well worth it. I don't think the feel of the bike changes too much with those upgrades (other than a little seat of the pantsmeter increase)so you would be OK there. This is something you will want to do anyway so why not do it right away? Plus I can't even imagine how hard it would be to put 1000 miles on it with the stock pipes.

Let us know what you decide and don't forget the pics.

New grips, Highway bar with pegs, and if a better half is riding with you, might as well put on the rear floorboards.

The list can go on & on............ never ends.....

Congrats on the new bike and post up some pictures when she arrives.........

Congratulations on your new bike!, I also put a deposit down on a 08 Fatboy, red, Mine won't be shipped till sept 1st, So the wait is on Lol, The pipes are usually the first thing most do to the bike, I seen the "Rider Essential kit HD just released for the FB, it has a windshield and a sissy bar\ backrest together at a little better price.

Congrats on the new bike. You need to get the pipes, air cleaner, and some type of fuel management system for the bike. The question is do you want to pay the dealer $75.00 an hour to bolt your stuff on along with the higher prices that they charge for parts & acces?? I just could not see spending this "extra" money when they were already getting plenty from me. For example: I put the V&H Big Radius pipes on my bike. The dealer wanted $659.00 for just the pipes and then 2.5 hours labor to put them on. I bought the pipes myself for $529.00 (shipped) and put them on in about 2 hours myslef for FREE! If you got deep pockets then just let the dealer take care of it, but I personally like doing my own stuff if I can. It makes you feel a little closer to your new friend! As for your original question, your gonnna end up getting the stuff sooner or later so why not just do it know. I really doubt your gonna like the sound of your bike without some type of exhaust upgrade. To me its just not a harley without the sound.

Good Luck,

Orrrrrrrrrrrr, you might just want to ride it stock (i.e. w/o the Stage 1) for a while and see if the engine has the power you want. Probably add some nice pipes...but going to Stage 1 will most likely cost you some fuel mileage. Just my 5 cents worth..which is probably worth about a nickle.

I was happy with stock performance and sound. For me it was the creature comforts..touring seat for my wife, engine guard with hwy pegs, passenger floorboards coming soon. and of course a little extra chrome here and there.

I wouldn't worry about the dealer rushing you right now. Take a look at other bikes and take your time to decide what is right for you.

I have a '08 FB that will be here in a month. I knew I didn't want the sewing machine sound of the factory pipes, so I got the dealer to order up some Vance and Hines Big Shot Staggards and the SE stage one. I'm having that put on the big before I bring it home. That way, they are on my sales receipt thus will be covered under the warranty. I will add more stuff of course as time/money permits.
