is anyone else noticing a lot of grease coming out from the bottom half of the front streering collumn? it oozed out all over the front area of the gas tank and top part of the frame where it goes into the steering collumn area.
is this normal for Harleys? do I need to add more greese or is it just oozing out the extra in the hot weather?
I wiped it up and it seems to have stopped oozing.
The only time I noticed it was after the dealer did the 1000 mile service. He must have pumped a little extra grease into the steering head bearings and it oozed all over the front cylinder head. The service manual says to lube the sttering head bearings every 10,000 miles and disassemble and inspect at 30,000 miles. I wouldn't worry about a little seeping unless you have a lot of miles on the bike. I would just clean it up and ride on.
Yes, normal. The manual actually states to pump grease into zirt until it ooozes outta the neck. So just whip'er off and feel good knowing your steering bearing is good and greased.
Mine does it also. Mostly when it's hot outside or in the garage where It's kept. I just take a paper towel and wipe the grease off before and after I ride. Sometimes it splatters on the cylinder heads. It is normal.
I have had the same thing. Normal or not it sucks. Especially when you are riding for several hundred miles and someone asks "whats leaking all over your tank?" I try to keep it wiped down but on occassions, it comes back especially after service.
thanks all... I guess since the new harley's dont mark their spot anymore ... they have to ooze some fluid still.
yepp this is after the 1000 mile service ... after it got hot the grease oozed all over the behind the steering collumn. oh well, just a check item after tanking up gas each time. I use the wipes at the gas station for cleaning windshields
