What seems to be the preference to brand and type of plugs used in fatboy ?

NGK DCPR7E or DCPR7EIX if you want iridiums. These are probably used far more than the OEM plugs which are just Champions sold as HDs probably to command a higher price like their citgo oil.4
Personally I wouldn't run champions in my lawn mower. Or citgo oil for that matter.
But like oil, fork oil, and a host of other stuff, they farm it out, often to the lowest bidder. So if you think you're buying some special Harley Davidson spark plugs or Harley Davidson oil...

Despite what this rant says, OEM plugs are most likely the most commonly used plugs, on any model Harley...

In 50 years as a mechanic, I have never had an issue with a Champion plug, on anything..

The main thing with plugs is to stay within the appropriate heat range for your engine build.... In most HD bikes, OEM plugs are just fine...

All the fancy plugs (iridium, platinum, etc) are great for the extended life of a plug, but Harley plugs are just not that hard to change... And the "snake oil" styles of plugs don't make a difference in Harley engines..

Certain plugs don't play well with the ion-sensing (knock detection) of the Twin Cam engines.... Seems silly to possibly disable the knock/detonation safety system...

You can get a pair of HD 6R12 Plugs for under $10, a pair of the same plugs by Champion, RA8HC, for $5.....

So I stick with the Champion or OEM .....

They're cheap enough and easy to replace so I just replace them regularly.....

IMHO, especially in HD applications, many people tend to overthink the spark plugs....

OEM plugs are always in stock at the dealer. No reason to hunt around for the aftermarket plugs.
