Default My adventure at trying to buy a Night Train

I'm sure no one remembers by now, but I posted back in May about purchasing a Night Train project bike from a high-volume dealer in the Milwaukee area .... which fell through. To make an overly complicated story palatable, what happened is that the salesman sold me the bike over the phone (we both signed papers and even charged my credit card) but as the bike was being loaded on the semi for delivery, the Manager came out and told him that he sold the bike too cheap and he was demanding that I pay an extra $1k over the agreed upon price. Obviously, I was furious that they would pull that stunt and after a half an hour of explaining that it was his problem not mine, and they're holding my bike hostage for more money since we already signed a contract, he refused to honor it so I decided to cut bait and get out of there. The kicker was that the salesman said "I hope this doesn't sour your experience buying from us and I hope you will consider us in future purchases." I know he's just doing what he's being told from his higher ups, but go pound sand buddy.

I ended up using those hard earned dollerydoos in a highly emotional, poorly thought out sport bike to relive by college years since the cash was burning a hole in my pocket, but quickly remembered why I traded my rock in for a Sportster all those years ago. Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy them but after about 20 minutes of riding, my body doesn't. My local dealer who is a good personal friend of mine knows I've been on the lookout for a Night Train all year round and brought in a couple to tempt me to bust out the check book. First attempt had a HD numbered paint set too nice for me to tear into and they sold that within 48 hours of it being at the store, it never reached the sales floor. The second was the one you see below, an 09 that has 11k miles on it but has been sitting for a while in a barn or garage so the paints a little iffy but the motor is mechanically great and pulls strong. There's a few things to go over, rear master cylinder needs rebuilt, few bulbs need replaced, needs a good check for tolerances in many areas but overall something I can dink around with while I still have my 2019 RK Special, which is exactly what I'm looking for. First things first though, those ShitShot V&H pipes gotta go.

I think you should post the name of the dealer that gave you problems so others on this site
are cautious in dealing with them. If the shoe was on the other foot and you had a good experience
with them you would have no problem mentioning their name.

I had a very similar issue with Plourde & Plourde Harley Davidson in Caribou, Maine in 1999. I wanted to
order a Hew Harley Softail Standard. I talked to the salesman about the order over the phone and came to a agreement
on the pricing. To order the bike, they required a deposit so I got in the car and drove 2-1/2 hours to their store to
put some money down. When I got there, they changed the price and wanted $1000.00 more dollars. Pissed me off so bad
I drove directly to Toys for Big Boys in Moncton, NB and ordered the bike. Ended up having a great experience there and still
do business with them today.

You can look at my other post to find it, I'm just too nice a guy to call someone out but I feel like the story needed to be told.

Man, I'm glad it's working out for you. I did the exact same thing. I have a new to me 2018 RKS I picked up a few months ago, which I do not plan on doing anything crazy with. And I just closed the deal on a '09 Crossbones to satisfy my need to mess with things. nd to give me a lighter ride when I don't feel like throwing around the RKS!

I agree with the guy above, name that dealer!

Yea, they did that with me too. Only they wanted 3k more. I gave him my cell number, and went home. I ignored their calls for a week or so and went back and bought it for the agreed price.
Cat and mouse game.

That’s a highly sought after bike, same dealer I bought my Train from also had a 95 Bad Boy that I was tempted by. Cosmetically the Night Train clicks for me, old school looks with modern reliability. Nothing too crazy besides suspension upgrades and maybe a 103 kit or just a cam on the docket for this winter. Just wanted a bar hoper project to scratch an itch.

I can’t find a post about a dealer. Your history doesn’t show any May posts. You should name the dealer , and save others the hassle of dealing with them.

Fine, you squeezed it out of me. I dunno, I just feel weird about someone googling the dealer and my post possibly coming up.
