I have owned a Trike years ago when didn't have any physical reasons to need it, but wanted to try it as it was a sweet looking custom Servi-Car at a great price .. .. Kept it about 6 months and went back to two wheels .. While love the looks of a Sidecar , 90% sure it would be a Trike, and at age 71 definitely crosses my mind sometimes but not yet ..

I slept on this one and I'm coming back to offer my input. At 37 and only 19 years in the saddle (150K miles roughly) I don't have the experience some of you have. I love riding and nothing has replaced that for me. I have back problems but do everything I can to keep myself active and healthy enough to ride. That said, if my physical limitations put me in a position that I could not ride two wheels safely, I'd hop on three without feeling bad about it.

I'm far from rich, but $14k for that kit to outfit my bike so I could keep riding to me would be worth it. Dropping $40k on a trike would be too if it really came down to it. I don't like not being able to ride. It's a quality of life aspect and we only get so many trips around the sun.

Besides, my kids don't need THAT much money when I go...

This is the Kit I would consider if going to a Trike if your existing ride is in Good Shape .. With the work I have done to my Dyna it's in Like New Shape ..

I vote sidecar. It takes some upper body strength but if you can ride a trike you can pilot a sidecar. You dont see a lot of sidecars much anymore but there are some out there waiting to be ridden.

I went through this as my dad got older and still wanted to ride. He doesn't any longer at 82, but he did make his last ride to Sturgis 3 years ago. I ended up buying a trike kit for his bike. It worked well for him but required a lot of adjustments to the bike, new raked trees, new exhaust, plus having to paint match everything. If I was to do it over I think I would just buy a trike. Have seen some used ones for around 30,000.00 here in MI, but when the come up they sell fast. A trike comes all set up, they handle great and we have guys in the Club that ride them and keep up with the pack no problem. Easy to park, back up and you can pretty much dress them out as you would any other bike. When my knees finally go, this is the direction I will be taking. Good luck on your decision.
