Default Question on exhaust

I just bought a 2002 fatboy with 24,000 miles on it. It had the stock cam chain tensioners on it so I has them upgraded to the hydraulic ones. The indy that did the work says the motor is one of the quietest on se he has seen in a long time. This bike is totally stock except for Vance & Hines 2 into 1 pro pipes. My problem is when cruising along at 60 mph the exhaust sounds bad, kind of like a bunch of marbles rattling around in the pipe. It is not the motor. I took the stock V&H baffle out and the ratteling stopped but it is far too loud. Any one have this problem and if so how do you fix it?
Thanks in advance

Just based on your description, sounds like the baffle was loose...

I'm not familiar with that exhaust or baffle... I would play around with it, to see if ai could fix the problem...

Have you examined the baffle to see if it has damaged or separated welds/rivets/screws.....???

If the baffle seems OK, I might try reinstalling the baffle, in case it wasn't fitted/mounted properly and then make sure it's tight...

In nay case, I would call V&H, tell them your experience, and then let them suggest a course of action...

I took the baffle out. It was not damaged and was installed properly.

Interesting.... the baffle was installed correctly and undamaged.

If you took the baffle out, and the rattle noise stopped...sure seems like the baffle, baffle fitment, and/or baffle mount had to be responsible in some way...???

Unless... you had to disassemble/reassemble other part(s) to get the baffle out and accidentally fixed whatever was loose...?

Make sure to post up the resolution... I'm curious...

I had a rattle that was making me crazy from idle to around 35 mph. Checked everything I could and ended up at "well it rides fine, just a noise". This summer I was fixing my starter and had to take off the rear pipe. Lo and behold! Loose screw on the baffle insert. Baffle felt tight to my fingers even after completely removing the screw and I know I checked the baffle when I was searching for the noise previously, but never actually tried tightening it. Cranked it down, and when job was done, no more rattle.

Lose bottom end when you remove the baffles. The post above me is where you should start, loose screws?

Is the baffle wrapped? Maybe tight at the back and loose up front?

I saw a picture of the stock baffle and it looks the same as the one in the muffler. Mabey that's just the sound it makes. However I have cur a stock muffler apart before and there was packing glued to the inside of the muffler itself. This muffler has no packing glued to it. I am phoning V&H today to question them.

Default baffles

Talked to V&H today. My pro pipe is discontinued as are the baffles. There never was a quiet baffle produced for that pipe so the new quiet baffle for the new pro pipe will not fit. They told me to check all parts of the pipe for rattles which I did. Every thing on the pipes are well made and in perfect shape. They also told me the noise I was hearing could be echoing inside the tapered muffler. They said maybe glue some muffler packing inside the diameter of the pipe to stop the reverberating.
