Default yet another post about exhaust

The stock mufflers on my '08 Softail Custom have some sound, but not nearly enough. I stopped over at the dealer the other day and they said they can't even install the Rush slip-ons because they don't have the ability to adjust the EFI on the new models. I spoke with a technician at Rush and he said depending on where you live, you can put the slip-ons on and the bike will adjust itself to the lessened back pressure (no controller nesessary). Anyone changed their pipes/mufflers on an '08 yet?? I want the Rush slip-ons with the 2" baffles.

..let it begin..now for all the usual questions...just updated for the 08's. Maybe with just slip-on's and no upgrade to A/C you would be fine as many of the 07/06's were is what the Rush guy was inferring.

Congrats on the new bike! I think the Softail Custom is one sweet looking ride, I was realy torn between that bike and the one I ended up with, the Heritage Classic due to already having bags and windshield for the road trips.

I do not know why the dealer told you they can not adjust the EFI on the 08 models? Is'nt the motor the same as the 07 models and dealers have been adjusting them? Call around to different dealers and see what they say, or do you live in California and adjusting the EFI is a no-no or something?

I talked to rush in the spring when I was thinking of going that way, and they told me as long as I left the air filter stock and went with a 1.75" diam. baffle in their slip ons I should not have to have the EFI adjusted or have a fuel management system.

Later,
Dan

I've always hear you don't have to adjust the efi as long as you don't mess with the air cleaner. but I gotta 05, so who knows on the 08's. it is the same motor though, your 08 is just stroked out, so I can't imagine it would matter. You could always put em on and run with it and check your plugs or see how much pop you get

I installed a set of Rush slip ons on my 07 Softail Custom to get a better sound. I chose the 1.75" diameter baffels. The sound is great.
I spoke at length to one of the men at Rush before I did it. He told me the stock EFI is able to make slight adjustments and switching from stock to 1.75 baffels would not require the purchase of a race tuner. He was right. My bike runs very well. I don't doubt that if I purchased a SERT and had the bike dino tuned there would be some improvement. I just wanted to get a better sound for now. I'm sure I'll spend some more money on a different air cleaner system and a race tuner later, but for now the bike is running very well.
I just wanted to say that the slight change from stock to Rush with 1.75" baffels will give you a huge improvement in the bike's sound, and it won't necessitate a lot of other expensive modifications.
According to the HD dealer, the difference between an 07 and 08 Softail Custom are internal and insignifficant.
If you put on the Rush mufflers and you don't like them you can always switch back. There are only three bolts per muffler. It took me about a half hour to do the job. The hardest part was wiggling the old mufflers off.

Well, I took all the advice today, and got the Rush Baloney cuts with 1.75" baffles. The bike sounds and runs great!! I am no longer riding a Honda Davidson. Thanks guys for the input.
