Default The 2006 Night Train Resurrection thread

Hey all,

Last week, I had the chance to pick up a 2006 Night Train for $2900. The bike has been sitting for a year in the south florida weather, but it fired right up and the motor rides/drives just fine. I knew it was going to need new gaskets / seals throughout primary, front brake line, new tires, new battery, new gas tank, signals, and foot controls right away - However, I am excited to be saving this one from a neglected life :-)

Spent some time cleaning up the front forks with Quick Glo (this stuff is amazing). Hit the front wheel with some White Diamond and a buffing attachment on my drill - seems to work well.

I picked up this tank on OfferUp for a relatively good price, and I am painting the fenders this week. Will probably go either Silver or Blue on the fenders (to match the tank) with some tasteful pirate theme pinstripes on each.

I just sold my Sportster 883R to cover this project, and the Night Train will become my daily driver now that it isn't raining every single day in SoFlo

I will update the thread as I progress. Waiting on a lot of parts to arrive last this week (new console, new master cylinder, new clutch perch, handlebar bushings, primary gaskets, etc.) - So it should be fun..

Looks like it’s been sitting out in the weather, so I’d add new pipes to your list pretty soon as I’d say the ones on the bike are pretty well rotted under all that sacking crap.

I agree with you, and the pipes are rusty - However, I am going to wait to choose a pipe until Black Friday or until a cheap set pop up on FB / OfferUp. Trying to keep the costs on this rehab as low as possible for now.

Default Quick update - 2006 Night train is rideable again

So in the last month, I’ve changed or replaced:

tank
handlebar bushings
control housings
front brake line
front cylinder head exhaust studs
Full exhaust
Center console
front tire
inner primary bearings
outer primary bearings
cam chain tensioner shoes (used Cyco)
top end gaskets (had to pull a head to fix a broken exhaust stud, and figured top end gasket replacement for both heads was just logical)
mirrors
rear integrated signal / brake light
painted front and rear fenders (temporary solutions - still looking for a nice vivid black rear fender to match the NOS black one I found on eBay)
k&n filter to replace nasty SE filter that was originally on the bike in October

I ride it for about 30 minutes yesterday. All seemed good. I have a shifter shaft seal to replace, so I’ll probably pull the primary this afternoon.

everything else is just cosmetic (scrubbing wheels a bit better, leather tank bib if I can find one on the cheap, foot pegs, etc).

Great job, much much much better than the abomination that it once was.
