Default 103 or 214 does it matter

I got a 2017 Slim with a 103 and it runs fine. I sold a 2018 Ultra and it was a great comfortable ride. I felt I had to sell it because I went out with a bad back. I tried to give up riding by I'm an addict. I found a 2017 Slim with 250 miles so I had to have it. I know the 103 has been around for quite some time. I'm just wondering if the 214 would have made me happier? I'm in my 60 and have owned 76 1000cc sportster and 80 ci FLH. What I'm saying is I've ridden slow and can appreciate the new bigger better faster tech. The thing I like about the Slim is the lack of a lot of the new tech. I'm sure the M8 hasn't been around long enough to talk about comparing reliability but I still wonder. Is the extra power worth it and do you pay for the HP with fuel mileage?

With as many people as I have seen still loving the 80ci Evo, I don't think the displacement is what matters. My bike 96ci bike can keep up with and even outrun some 103 baggers. The bike weighs less so it doesn't need as much to get going. But I am planning on a big bore to 107 just to add more oomph. Fuel range shouldn't suffer too much, the engine has to work less to do the same job.

If you like the bike, ride it. Always wanting the next best thing will leave you always wanting more and you'll never be happy.

You can do a lot with that 103. Doesn't take much to leave the M8s eating your dust and breathing your exhaust fumes.

The bagger is usually a more comfortable ride as they are designed for long distance riding but a properly setup Softail can be just as comfortable. Find the right seat, set the shocks and check the ride height.
