I may have asked this before. Is anyone aware or a kit that
includes in insert for the main side panel ?
I'm aware of the "gotsaggybags" etc. They have that reinf rail
for the top, but even with that stretching it out,
the side panel still wants to cave in.
The bags are off a 17
I was at Eagles Nest Harley in Lathrop (By Stockton) awhile back.
There was an 08 Copper Top Aniv model. It had the insert.
It seemed to do the trick. I should have gotten a brand name.
I'm almost thinkin' plastic waste paper basket, a large one
and just cut out my own. It would have the lip to go over
the top.
You can see what I mean in my sig pic
Swing arm bag, not saddle bag, but my Garage Leathers bag is 9 years old and it's still solid, but sagging. I was looking for HDPE sheeting to brace the back of the back and reshape the top but couldn't find any.
Since the bag is small and I have plenty of it, I was thinking about cutting an insert panel out of 14g steel to flatten out the backrest again. I can paint and cover it with thin leather so you'd almost never even know it was there.
Might not work for the saddle bags, but that's where my mind is right now.
I used the Saggy Bags kit on my '07 Heritage. At 13 years old the bags were in pretty sad shape and hardened. Gave them multiple treatments of Lexol before the installation of the kit. It was a pain to get the set in wrinkles out but they look much, much better with the kit installed. If you go this route be sure to use plenty of the supplied glue on the lid panels.
Between the top rail and the long insert my side panels have the original shape to them.
Didn't browse the site but it seems it should be easy to find something. I have the HD kit on my Heritage, lid top has plastic glued on, if my memory is correct, it is not too thick, maybe 1/16th of an inch.
Thanks for the input
The lids have thick liners in them.
I can tell they were added. No issue with
them. It's mainly those side panels.
It's really just the one side.
The top reinforcements help, but not much.
I'm not crazy about these bags. I do like them
better than the orig w/10,000 studs on them.
Stockton LeatherWorks is only about 40 min
from here. Might pay them a visit one day. I just
don't have the coins to drop on saddlebags
right now.
