Default Need some Advice on Bags and Windshield

Hello,
I am new to this forum. Just purchased a 2004 Night Train and am looking for the best looking, most functional, removable windshield and leather bags for this bike.

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Andy

I can offer only my limited experience, so take it for what it's worth. First, decide what it is you're trying to accomplish, and fit your purchase there. For bags, try to decide first if you want or need removeable ones, then what you'll be carrying, to determine size. I have leather bags, realitively small, and are "fixed". The only change I would have made there would have been quick release if I could find them for my bike. If you're going to tour, you might want to consider hard bags, etc. While my bags are fairly small, with limited carrying capacity, I rely on my sissy bar bag for weekend trips.
On the windshield, again that's really tough. I have a quick release, but never use it. It's the 100th anniversary edition and looks nice, just don't like a windshield. If you want protection, sit on the bike, while someone measures out in front of you 60'. At 30' you should be looking through the windshield, at 60' you should be looking over it. Too short and the buffeting will be very annoying.
Your question, like most, are very personal, so don't rely on anyone to tell you what to do. Best bet, take your time and really look at what's out there. Don't do like I did and figure that "this is all there is". Good luck to you.
Frank

Hi Frank,
I truly appreciate the advice.

Let me try to answer your questions. As far as bags go, I do want removable ones. Nothing very large, just something to throw some jackets and/or sweatshirts and maybe a rain suit in. I would be interested to see the options for a sissy bar bag too.

A removable windshield is definitely what I want. I want to keep it without a windshield 90% of the time and just something to quickly put on for longer trips. Do you have a picture of the one you have? Are you interested in selling it?

Thanks again.
Andy

I'm a relatively new owner and have had to make the same purchasing decisions as you are now. Based on a lot of research (mostly here, as well as general Goggle searches), I've ordered my bags from Osprey Limited. I also seriously considered Leather Pros, and Boss Bags got great reviews.

Also based on input from here, I found a link to Jafrum and got my sissybar bag - very well-made and good quality, regardless of the cost (which was cheap as far as I'm concerned!).

I got my detachable windshield from Harley when I bought the bike, and am glad I did. Everything I've got is detachable, so the configuration is very flexible and I can add or remove as I need. DO heed the advice regarding getting the right size... mine is just a bit shorter than it should be and does buffet a bit at higher speeds.

Good luck!
Roger

From suggestions and looking at pics here in this forum, I have started going to Iron Bags. They look great, they seem to be well regarded, and the folks at Iron Bags hae answered my millons of questions about them. Give them a look, they have many pics of their different models on buyer's bikes. http://www.ironbags.com

Recently, I bought detachable bags from Boss Bags out of Wisconsin. They offered the cleanest look with NO evidence of brackets showing once you remove the bags. Kinda pricey, but Im satisfied with mine.
